Dr. Richard Lewanczuk

Senior Transformation Advisor: Integrated Health and Social Care

Dr. Richard Lewanczuk is an internationally recognized leader in Health and Social care transformation. With over a decade as Senior Medical Director for Primary Health Care and later Health System Integration at Alberta Health Services, he has led large-scale initiatives to strengthen care infrastructure, access, and quality across sectors. His work has shaped team-based models to support patients with complex needs and has contributed to pioneering efforts in chronic disease management and advanced access.

Dr. Lewanczuk has advised governments and health systems in Canada and internationally—including Ireland, NHS England, New Zealand, the Netherlands, and Australia—on system integration and primary care reform. He is a Senior Member of the International Foundation for Integrated Care and a trusted advisor on multiple national projects, including the CIHR-funded Network for Integrated Care Excellence (NICE).

A prolific contributor to health systems science, he currently co-chairs the Social Determinants of Health Committee at the University of Alberta and holds advisory roles with national accreditation, long-term care, and learning health systems initiatives. His strong community ties include years of direct service delivery in rural and Indigenous communities, where he helped develop culturally responsive models of care.
